First Edition

During the course of my travels the funniest stories always seem to concern having to "Spend a Penny".  Why keep these to myself when I can blog for all the world to see.  There is also the possibility that one or more of my stories may assist travellers in search of elusive loos.

But before I enter into the humourous and sometimes murky world of public toilets I need to appraise the reader that I am something of a Taphophile i.e. I spend a lot of time visiting churchyards and graveyards to photograph headstones.  So let me start, not with the story of a public convenience, but with mention of Thomas CRAPPER, the plumber whose name used to appear on all the best sanitary ware.

Several years ago whilst searching for a grave in Beckenham Cemetery in the suburbs of London I stumbled across a headstone which made me look twice.  The inscription was for Thomas Crapper who had died on 27th. January 1910 aged 73.  Well I just had to take a photo of that headstone.

As I have now started this blog I will in future be examining the brand marks on all the sanitary ware that I use when "out & about" in the hope of finding Thomas' name suspended above me on an old cistern or perhaps down below in the toilet bowl.
